The number of people registering to vote spikes for deadline day

Just a brief blog post to applaud the news that over 500,000 people finally registered on deadline day –  by far the biggest number of people registering in a single day this election. The second highest day was National Voter Registration Day on 5th February, which attracted 166,000 people to register.

A lot of this is thanks to the new online registration system which has made the process much quicker, as well as being more accessible to us young people. This of course meant, many people were still registered at 11:59pm last night – 3,700 to be exact! It’s fantastic to see the media, social media and celebrity push towards registration has paid off.

Just make sure you now all remember to vote on 7th May – contrary to popular opinion, every vote counts! Especially in such a closely fought campaign as the current one.
